Los Tres Ojos

I grew up in the Dominican Republic, but I came from a family that wasn’t very focused on educating us about the country’s rich culture or taking us to explore its beautiful landmarks. As a result, I didn’t learn much about the island’s heritage when I was younger. I made it my goal to immerse myself in the history and culture of the Dominican Republic, so that I could not only learn for myself but also pass that knowledge on to my children. I want them to grow up with a deep appreciation for the country’s beauty, traditions, and history, something I wish I had experienced when I was younger.

But before I could teach them, I knew I had to educate myself first. And so, here we are today—taking the steps to learn more and share that wisdom with my family. One of the places we visited was Los Tres Ojos (The Three Eyes), a stunning natural wonder that showcases the breathtaking beauty of the Dominican Republic. It was a special experience for us all, and I felt a sense of pride in being able to show my children something I never had the chance to appreciate as a child

The National Aquarium

Faro a Colon/ Columbus Light House

"The Faro a Colón, or Columbus Lighthouse, is a large monument and mausoleum in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, dedicated to Christopher Columbus. Inaugurated in 1992, it is notable for its unique architecture and the ongoing debate about whether it contains Columbus's actual remains."

Los Tres Ojos/ The Three Eyes

"Los Tres Ojos National Park is a beautiful nature break from the city, and offers a solid glimpse of the Taino’s underground caverns once used for refuge or rituals. A winding entrance staircase leads to a series of caves, with pathways hugging three freshwater, iridescent blue lagoons or “eyes” as the Taino used to call them for their oval-shapes. A fourth lagoon is accessible via a small wooden barge, revealing a gorgeous, open-air scenery of water and a rocky landscape covered in lush vegetation all around. Keep an eye out for petroglyphs and pottery shards."

The boys and Jared didn't want to wait and do the fourth lagoon because it was too hot and humid.
